Where Real Estate Investors & Landlords Go for Success

Support RPOA Candidates on November 6th

Each election cycle the RPOA interviews candidates running for certain local and/or state offices (typically state offices within districts within Kent and Ottawa Counties.)  The RPOA chooses to support those candidates that exhibit an understanding of rental property, real estate and the issues facing the industry and are generally supportive of the RPOA’s position on various legislative initiatives. In that light, the RPOA recommends that members support the following candidates in the election on November 6th:

    For Senate:

    Chris Afendoulis
    Peter MacGregor
    Roger Victory

    For House of Representatives:

    Lynn Afendoulis
    Thomas Albert
    Amanda Brand
    Tommy Brann
    Mark Huizenga
    Steve Johnson
    David LaGrand
    Scott VanSingel

The RPOA did not interview Kent County commissioner candidates but the Grand Rapids area Greater Regional Alliance of REALTORS supports the following candidates for county commissioner:

    Laurel Abraham
    Thomas Antor
    Mandy Bolter
    Carol Hennessy
    Diane Jones
    Dan Koorndyk
    Jim Saalfeld
    Stan Stek
    Kyle Terpstra
    Jessica Ann Tyson
    Harold Voorhees
    Robert Womack

The other major issue on the ballot is whether or not to legalize the use of marijuana. The question is a daunting one from a rental property owner and manager perspective. If marijuana is made legal in Michigan, the RPOA will host a panel of specialists at the 2019 Michigan Landlord & Real Estate Investor Conference to help all of us understand the impacts of the new law and other related laws. The conference runs from February 21-23.
