Tenant Permission Bill Reintroduced
The Tenant Permission Bill from last session has been taken up by a new sponsor, Senator Rick Jones. Senate Bill 107 clarifies landlords’ and tenants’ rights regarding permission to enter a rental unit for a municipal housing code inspection. The bill clarifies the tenant’s right to demand an administrative warrant for a municipal rental inspection and prevents either the tenant or the rental property owner from being penalized for the tenant’s refusal of entry. The bill doesn’t affect the landlord’s right of entry under a lease. The bill received overwhelming support during the last session as a House bill but failed to get through the Senate before the end of the legislative session. The RPOA of Michigan supports the bill.
